Day 64 - Back to Business

Olivia's face appeared: immaculate make up, hair AND judging by that finger that she was pointing at me from behind the screen, she'd somehow managed to get a manicure.

Olivia: Uh-uh Daisy! Those roots have returned with a vengeance.
And she's back!!!
Me: So have you, I see.
Olivia: Thank goodness you've calmed down since Friday, Daisy. I was actually embarrassed for you. Calling the police on me!
Me: I did not call the police on you! I was worried sick! I thought you were gonna top yourself, for Christ's sake. How was I to know that you'd been to Superdrug for vitamins and a ton of shit to pamper yourself with.
Olivia: You almost ruined my home spa experience! It took a hell of a lot of lavender oil and Calm Balm to get into the zone after you'd gone.
Me: Well, the policewoman understood. She could see that it was a genuine mix up, after I'd explained the circumstances.
Olivia: Luckily for you. They could have charged you with wasting police time, you know? I wouldn't top myself as you put it, Daisy. I'm not the type.
Me: Not the type! How many times have you seen someone being interviewed on the news and they say, 'He didn't seem like the type,' eh?
Olivia: Ssh! Antonio's coming. Don't say a word. Hey Antonio!
Antonio: Olivia! Are you alright?
Olivia: I'm fine. I'm fine. I was just a little under the weather last week, that's all. Right ….. I've been through the emails that Daisy sent me, and I've had some faaaaabulous ideas!
As I suspected - saved by my emails. Only Olivia could be brought back from the brink by bloody work!

I really wish that John hadn't worked out how to do internet banking. It was all going so well before he got involved.
"That Tesco bill was astronomical!" he said.
Thank God he didn't catch a glimpse of the itemised receipt before I ripped it up and scattered it in amongst the recycling.
"I've told you before, John. We eat loads now that we're home all day. The more I buy in one go, the less we have to venture out to the shops, remember. Also, think of the money we're saving by not eating out."
     "I suppose. Have you …."
Bugger! I know what's coming next.
"...… managed to speak to Rosie about that money that she owes us? We could probably do with it straight away, to tide us over until payday."
     "No. I ….. sorry, I forgot."
     Well, I hoped YOU had!
"What is it with you and her when it comes to money, anyway?"
"I've told you ……. I know they're struggling at the moment, that's all. I don't want to see the kids going without."
John tutted and eyed me suspiciously "I know you, Daisy. There's more to it than that."
"Don't be silly," I said. "Cup of tea?"
     "Go on then."
     Never failed.
Having already endured a meeting with Olivia, I had no desire to rake over ancient family history today.🤫

At times like these, I REALLY wish I hadn't seen so many Horror/ Dystopian/ Zombie Apocalypse box sets on Netflix.       As recent news images started to flash onto our screens like the opening titles of 'Dawn of the Dead', my brain automatically fast-forwarded to those inevitable scenes just before the closing credits start to roll. I've read enough books and seen enough drama of this genre to know how it will end; with me probably having to engage in an unspeakable sex act with some gormless trolleyboy behind the 'Click and Collect', in exchange for a packet of Cream Crackers!      My hubby, who was full of big talk about 'self sufficiency' and home grown tomatoes a couple of weeks ago, is already rapidly losing the plot, so make no mistake about it -  when the shit hits the fan, it'll be down to me to do whatever I have to do for the family. Even if the selfish bastards don't particularly deserve it! With a bit of luck, we have a long way

January - Hello 2021!

Not gonna lie, I always find emerging from my Christmas cocoon to be a challenge. But this year ....... dear God!😩      It had been a very strange time for the family. After months of having this thing hanging over us like an executioner's guillotine, we actually had  it! Having endured John's almost constant hysteria - his persistent worrying, obsessive disinfecting and pathological fear of the world and its residents - we had succumbed to the virus anyway. And most importantly of all, we had survived and come out the other side. Don't get me wrong, coronavirus isn't to be recommended. It wasn't pleasant. But like all those things in life that you manage to survive, there's always a plus side to be found. Apart from John FINALLY having to stop worrying about catching the bloody thing and accepting that the virus particles had actually outwitted him, I managed to lose a great deal of the weight that I'd piled on during the lockdown of 2020. This meant that
